Repeat Prescriptions

Repeat prescribing changes

From 1 November 2016, the CCGs in Bradford are implementing a new scheme which means that pharmacies will no longer be able to order medicines on behalf of patients. This means that patients will need to order their repeat prescription directly from their GPpractice.  It is anticipated that all GP practices in Bradford will have phased in this change in by 31 January 2017.

The aim is to empower patients to have greater control and understanding of their medicines. It will also help to improve the quality and safety of services to patients and eliminate prescription waste.

Patients can save time by ordering their repeat prescriptions securely online or bynominating a trusted familymember/carer to do this on their behalf, if they wish. This online service is known as ‘SystmOnline’ and is available via GP practice websites or by downloading the free ‘SystmOnline’ app for mobile phones/tablets. It also enables patients in Bradford to book their GP appointments online at any time. For more information about online services click here.

Patients or their carers/family members can still order prescriptions in writing, or by handing in the tear-off part of their repeat prescription to the GP surgery. Practices will continue to send the prescriptions directly to the nominated chemist of patients’ choice, who will then dispense the medicines as usual.

Although there is no change to treatment, patients may have questions about the medicines they are taking. These questions should be directed to their GP practice. Any concerns or complaints should be raised with the Bradford CCGs patient support line, information about how to do this can be found on the CCGs websites
